World AIDS Day 2006 HD...
First Place Winner ..Worlds Aids Day Contest here on dA!
Special Thanks to the Judges and all that supported my entry! There were many "FINE" entries for such an important cause. Thanks to and for each and every one...We are ALL in this together! Stop AIDS...Keep the promise!

Dec 1 was my one year anniversary of painting solely for HIV charity. Dec 1 also marked the 25th birthday of HIV.

The International theme this year is "Stop Aids, Keep the promise." [link]

Remember those we have lost, and do what you can to help those that are suffering and, or without. May everyone have a safe and healthy holiday season!

SPECIAL Thank you to ALL the people that have made this competition possible. To the artists/photographers that have taken the time to enter this contest and or remark. It warms my heart that you still care........

J.Michael

As a RN and Poz mentor, as a person infected with HIV...how interesting it is that the theme for this year..."Keeping the promise". Now, somehow applies with the ability to upload into the World AIDS day contest. Could it be missing infra-structure and saturated with ignorance like the areas devastated by AIDS? <analogy>
I am in shock at the amount of people that think the "ignorance" now associated with HIV is in HOW you get it? It doesn't matter HOW you get it, much like the ignorance that surrounds it. Its about how YOU manage it, which requires education and response. Unfortunately, people are STILL throwing rocks, as others stand in line for their meds.
<The one thing that will stop the progression and stay the virus.>
Know the ignorance is about how we treat the disease and the people that are affected/infected by it. These hate ridden remarks. The FEAR of being treated "differently". Hate Is the real killer.
As frustrating as the contest submisson appeared to effect people personally. I am sure that the "cure" of this glitch on dA will come long before the one for AIDS.
In my heart of hearts I know that "Hate" is a disease far worse than the HIV virus, worse than AIDs and untreatable with meds. Those we hate learn to hate themselves and the cycle continues. The cross-infection complete. The bible can't seem to even help those that hold it...or wave it. The hate consumes them. We are a modern world still trying to live by the Old Testament Laws.
What would Jesus do?
That's a good question....Think Mary at the well, or the lepers....Jesus spat on no one...Instead of looking at the bible as a list of things NOT to do...could you perhaps see it as a list of things TO do?
Live in the New Testament not the old.
<thats why it's new>
Glitches and ignorance still kills people EVERY day!
"Stop hate", "Stop aids...Keep the promise! "
Take this time and this experience and hold your local, state and federal Governments accountable...contact them about their AIDs promises to foreign lands and here at home, as they continue to cut funding and promote war, and loss of young HEALTHY life. Jesus would not let this happen. Abstinence is not treatment! Take your hands from your face....let THEM hear your voice! Be part of a modern miracle! The end of hate and the end of AIDS.
Be accountable!

Thank you very much. Although now it is possible to be very healthy and poz on meds. Many chose not to take them, or not pay close enough attention. As long as there is bad behavior there will be excuses as to "why"...I tried to cover every aspect of the breakdown that I see. Being a nurse in my past I saw many people die needlessly...for that there is no excuse. My best to you always...

Hehe, since you said Merry Christmas and I'm Jewish, should I say Happy Hanukkah back, or should I be good and say "Happy holidays?" =P

Well...lets not get sensitive...hee hee. I swear I don't know how people get so offended by religion. We truly all believe differently, thats what makes us individuals. I was just kidding, honestly. I'm born Jewish but I definitely do not have Jewish beliefs, so I don't consider myself Jewish at all, I only celebrate the holidays 'cause I still live with my parents. =3

Sorry if it came out wrong =P

Wearing it with pride! This is wonderful ... the anonymous subject ... it MUST be a self portrait! The detail in every respect is tremendous.

Agree with all you have said ... I support a HIV/AIDS foundation in the UK. It's a tragedy on an international scale and people of all types, shades and ages suffer with it and because of it.

Great concept and execution...Love all the shading and detail (the nipple beneath the t-shirt ;)) It's interesting the way you "cropped" the piece... he could be every-man (which is a lot more powerful than showing someone specific, in my opinion ) I do agree that prevention is not a treatment for those already infected, more needs to be done not only in research but treatment for those in poor communities. Sadly, in many places (especially some African countries) there is very little or no treatment options at all and infection is on the rise because of a lack of education. I also agree that we all have a part to play in eradicating AIDS and the first step to that is eradicating ignorance... :+favlove:
